Acapulco is known as a crossroads for travelers for at least a millennium. The name "Acapulco" means "region of dense reeds" in Nahuatl language.
The first vestiges, metates of stone and pottery utensils, date from the third millennium BC. Long after, sophisticated artisans fabricated female figurines "plump". Certain assumptions find Polynesian or Asian influences at least 1500 years before the arrival of Christopher Columbus.
The city is built on a narrow strip (half a mile) of flat land between the coast and the mountains that surround the bay.
These are of a great beauty.
Acapulco has an international airport, with flights to the rest of Mexico, the United States, Canada and Europe.
